Texting-and-Driving.jpgYou are driving, your phone "dings", you pick it up and read, then respond. Those few seconds could change your life forever. Texting and driving is something the majority of Americans do everyday, but this means you are risking your life multiple times a day. Is it worth it? According to USA Today, 5,870 people died due to distracted driving, texting being a main distraction. Teen are so focused on their phones making them very susceptible to texting and driving. At John E. Peakes Insurance Agency, California auto insurance is something we work with multiple times a day and we see a huge amount of teens taking to the road. When phones and constant contact is a huge part of life, teens are ignoring the dangers of texting while driving and putting themselves and others on the road in danger.

We may be California auto insurance agents during the day, but many of our agents are also parents. We know that many things we say to our children go in one ear and out the other. That is why we were excited to see there is a way to help put an end to teens texting and driving.

Phone companies have come out with Phone Apps that can save your teens life. Two examples are Apps like DriveSmart Plus and Key2SafeDriving sense when you are driving and disable most or all of our phone's functionality once you have hit a certain speed. Other ones are StopTexting, which is free, and cell control. These apps are easy to get and very inexpensive when you realize what they are accomplishing.

We hope that one day your teen will understand how important focus is while driving and phones can wait, but until then an app might be your best answer to a very serious problem. Also, call one of our agents today to find out how you can get car insurance for your teen and what discounts we have to offer. Keep your children protected and cover all bases.
