Independent Agent or Direct Writer? Which One Should You Choose?

When it comes to insurance agents there are basically two kinds, an independent agent and a direct writer. An independent agent is an agent who can provide you with multiple quotes and sell you a policy from multiple insurance carriers. A direct writer is someone who works for just one company, which means they can only sell you a policy from that one particular company.

There are many benefits to working with an independent agent over a direct writer. Independent agents have local offices allowing consumers to stop in and have face-to-face meetings with an agent. This means any questions or changes one may have can be handled on the phone or in person. Since independent agents write with multiple companies, they will work with you to find the right company for your specific needs.

At John E. Peakes Insurance Agency there are nine agents working in two different locations, Ventura and Lancaster. We currently have one agent working up in the San Francisco area so we extend our services up north. We also write with approximately thirty different insurance companies. This gives our agents the chance shop the best rates for you and therefore get the best insurance for everyone. Our agents are here to help you understand everything about the specific insurance you are purchasing and will go above and beyond to accommodate our clients. Choosing to get your insurance through an independent agent is like have your own personal assistant to make your life easier. Can’t get much better then that?
