California Insurance Agency Advice for Natural Disasters
California is affected by a number of weather events and disasters including high winds, flood, earthquake, and wildfires. As a resident of the State, California insurance agency products such as home and business insurance may help reimburse you financially were you to be affected by a natural disaster, but it’s essential to be absolutely clear on when you are covered and when you are not.
While different insurance policies may be similar in a number of areas, there can be differences between insurers so it’s vital that you read your policies thoroughly. In general, home and business policies may cover you for several natural disasters but there are exceptions. Floods are not usually covered under home and business policies but through the Government’s National Flood Insurance Program. Earthquake is another such instance. Earthquake insurance often needs to be purchased as a separate policy as it’s not included in standard contracts. Most other major wind, storm and fire disasters may be covered, but again, make sure you check your own policy thoroughly to be sure and to check that your level of coverage is adequate.
Always take time to review your policies to keep them up-to-date at all times. If you feel you need extra insurance, or would just like clarification on any part of your policy, then be sure to contact your California insurance agency.
